With
the present financial situation, which according to some
non-partisan financial analysts was caused by the Bush
administration’s blocking oversight or removing regulations on
some financial institutions, it seems odd to me that McCain is
still advocating more deregulation to fix the problem. While I
am not a big fan of over-regulation by big brother, I think
that some oversight is necessary. Another troubling aspect of
the current situation is that the “Federal Reserve” (which is
actually not part of the government) has decided to “bail out”
AIG to the tune of $75 or $80 Billion – guess who will get the
bill for that decision.
McCain’s financial solution is more of the same stuff that got
us into this mess, which to my way of thinking is like
grabbing the lit end of a match then doing it again to heal
the burn it doesn’t make sense.
Obama’s plan, while admirable, is probably never going to see
full implementation for a variety of reasons to numerous to
list. The main obstacle though is probably old school
political methods (neither party gets away blameless here).
Regardless of any facts, figures, idealistic dogma or other
arguments people will vote as they see fit. The disturbing
part of that point is that in this contentious election if the
voter turn-out doubles, the bottom line will be that possibly
26% of the eligible voters will decide who gets stuck with
Bush’s mess. If I wasn’t so afraid of what McCain could do to
make things worse I might be tempted to screw him royally and
let him have the job.
One
final point on things that scare me about McCain, his service
to the US in Viet Nam was admirable, even without the
embellishments, but the fact remains that he spent five and a
half years being tortured and abused as a POW. That would warp
anyone’s thinking, I still have issues from Nam and I wasn’t a
POW. But, one thing that I am sure of is, in McCain’s position
in the Senate I would never vote to cut Veteran’s benefits and
I sure as hell wouldn’t support the torture of enemy
combatants regardless of whether they are in uniform or not.
The information obtained has proven unreliable in most cases.
